Answer

SCIEX OS software creates a special placeholder file (with a file extension of .special) and places these files in the root of every known SCIEX OS project sub-folder, including such folders as Data, Batch, and Results. The .special file is an empty file, and it helps the software ensure that the project folders are created by the SCIEX OS software and not by a random user. SCIEX OS software uses both the project folder names and the .special files to identify its known folders, and it will not recognize the folder if the .special files are removed.
