Answer

During a search with ProteinPilot™ Software 5.0, 5.0.1 and 5.0.3, the error "Unhandled Exception: Out Of Memory Exception" appears. This issue is due to the LC/MS reconstruct crashing within the ProteinPilot Software when data sets with a high MS1 scan speed are being processed.

The workaround is to use the old signal processing algorithm. This can be done by modifying the ProteinPilot.exe.config. Navigate to C:\Program Files\AB SCIEX\ProteinPilot and open this file with Notepad.

Once the ProteinPilot.exe.config file is open, find the line for <add key="RunLCMSReconstruct" value="true"></add> and then change it to <add key="RunLCMSReconstruct" value="false"></add>. Then save the file and restart the ProteinPilot software to begin the search again.

Once your analysis are finished, revert the ProteinPilot software configuration file to the original text found in ProteinPilot.exe.config. Typically, the LCMS reconstruct is preferable for general use.
